ABOUT THE LAWYER SHOW
Auditions for The Lawyer Show, a mainstay arts fundraiser in our community, are here! The 2024 Lawyer Show marks the 21st production where the finest acting and musical talents of Vancouver’s legal community will take the stage. Professional directors and designers will guide the selected participants through a remarkable creative process culminating in five performances from June 19 – 22, 2024 on the beautiful Newmont Stage at the BMO Theatre Centre in Olympic Village.
This fundraising production is in support of Touchstone Theatre Society, one of Vancouver’s most respected not-for-profit charitable professional theatre companies. Each performance is followed by a reception and cash bar in the splendid BMO Lobby. Ticket sales, program ads and sponsorship opportunities will soon be available.
THE PRODUCTION
The Lawyer Show 2024 – INTO THE WOODS

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece… and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.
The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.
One of Sondheim’s most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy. Designers will especially enjoy highlighting the fantastical elements of this magical world.
AUDITION DETAILS
This audition call is open to aspiring musical theatre ACTORS and MUSICIANS who also belong to the legal community.
***Please note that while some of the singing requirements are considered challenging, there are also minimal singing and non-singing roles and no previous acting/singing experience is required. All legal professionals are welcome!

BOOKING TIMES/DATES
There is no need to book a slot, just show up during one of the allotted times and be prepared to sing one song of your choosing and a monologue from Into the Woods available for download below.
PREPARATION
There is no need to memorize your song or monologue – just be familiar with it enough to deliver it with confidence!
ACTORS – What to prepare for your auditions:
(1) A song of your choosing. This may be sung A cappella (2 minutes max) OR with a backing track (3 minutes max).

MUSICIANS – What to prepare for your audition
(1) a musical piece of your choosing that displays your abilities in one (or more if you are a multi-instrumentalist) of the instruments below. Please keep the piece to a max of 2 minutes.

Please Note: there are a few small roles that do not require singing.
If helping behind-the-scenes appeals to you, we will also be interviewing those who would like to assist with running rehearsals and backstage activities.
REHEARSAL COMMITMENT
If you are cast in The Lawyer Show you can expect to be part of an intimate, rigorous and fun musical theatre community.
You will need to be available for rehearsals beginning March 5th for approximately 16 weeks. Rehearsals will be held Tuesday & Thursday evenings with added Sunday afternoons or evenings starting mid-May.
Band members will rehearse starting May 2024.

FUNDRAISING COMMITMENT
The Lawyer Show is a critical fundraising event for Touchstone theatre. As such, we ask that participants be prepared to sell at least 15 tickets and contribute towards the Silent Auction, as well as helping Touchstone staff to procure company sponsorships and programme ad sales.
