Unveiling and Launch event

In December of 2014 we moved into our new permanent home with the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival, Music on Main, and the DOXA Documentary Film Festival. This new shared office and rehearsal space is an innovative creative hub for the community, in the heart of the downtown core. The four partners formed the 110 Arts Cooperative to manage the new space, which has two rehearsal halls available for rent for rehearsal, meetings, workshops and events. To book, email our Facility Manager at bookings@110arts.ca.

Take a look at the new space:

What's in a name?
The leaders of the new shared Arts space at 750 Hamilton St. had a desire to root their endeavor in the material memory of the land in downtown Vancouver on which the space sits.

Hamilton Street is named after CP Rail Surveyor Laughlin Hamilton, who surveyed much of Vancouver and several other Western Canadian cities. The method used to parcel out land at the time, consisted of driving steel posts in the land as markers and measuring out lots with chain. Given the terrain in Vancouver, this was an arduous process that presented many obstacles.

For all four of the founding Arts organizations the home they now inhabit is their first permanent space. Finding, creating, and securing space for the Arts in Vancouver is a similarly arduous process to the original survey of the city, and so the leaders found in the image of a Post a striking statement of staking a claim for the Arts in the downtown core.

The Post is both an image of stability and rootedness, and also a hub or beginning that many other things will spring from. The inclusion of 750 will help our community with wayfinding and visual recognition of the space in the built environment.
