The Playwright
Lebanese-Quebecois Playwright and Governor General's Award winner Wajdi Mouawad is the new Artistic Director of French Theatre at the National Arts Centre, Ottawa. While Mouawad is this generation's most internationally celebrated Quebecois theatre-maker, his work is rarely produced west of Toronto. In 2002, when Mouawad was 36, the French Government made him a Knight of the Ordre National des Arts et des Lettres for his contribution to French-speaking theatre.

Tideline is a tale of war, exile and individual discovery. It follows a young bi-cultural North American man's journey to bury his father in his unnamed native land. Epic in scale and wildly theatrical, Tideline is an imaginative fable which echoes the playwright's Lebanese heritage, and makes deep and unsettling connections between the lives of Canadians and the myriad of conflicts being played out across the globe. It promises to be one of the theatre season's most provocative and daring offerings.
