The Best Laid Plans: a Musical
September 19 – October 3, 2015
Previews September 17 & 18
The York Theatre
639 Commercial Dr.
Based on the novel by Terry Fallis
Book by Vern Thiessen
Music and lyrics by Benjamin Elliott and Anton Lipovetsky
Based on Terry Fallis’ award-winning novel, this new musical is the largest and most ambitious production Touchstone has ever mounted. Daniel Addison is a speechwriter who convinces a crusty old Scot to let his name stand in an election he’s sure to lose. But their best laid plans go hilariously awry, as Fallis’ unforgettable characters sing us right off the stage and into Canada’s real federal election.
A partnership of Touchstone and Patrick Street Productions, The Best Laid Plans: a Musical has been in development with both companies for three years. Growing out of In Tune and a shared desire to invest in the creation of new Canadian musicals, the project has been ushered through a significant development arc to support the book and the music as they evolved together out of the book that inspired them.
The novel The Best Laid Plans won the Leacock Medal for Humour and CBC Canada Reads. It was followed up by The High Road and made into a CBC television mini series. Find out more about Terry Fallis and his writing here.
